Schedule an Audition

2024-2025 AUDITIONS - May 6, 2024 5-8pm at Illinois Wesleyan University

Each year, we hold new student auditions at 2 pivotal junctures in our season. As we finish our season and as we begin. With our final spring concert on May 5, 2024, we will hold our auditions for interested musicians the following evening, May 6 at Illinois Wesleyan University from 5:00-8:00 pm. Once submitted, you will receive a follow up email with an audition time and our participation handbook. It will include participant expectations, musical foundations expected of all members, and our schedule to ensure attendance in all activities and performances. 

We welcome musicians on the following instruments:

Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, Clarinet, Saxophone (Alto; must be able to transpose)

Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba

Percussion

Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass

You are eligible to audition for the BNYS if:

• you are under the age of 22 and you play a string, woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument;

• and you are an active participant in your school music program, and preferably studies privately.

For your audition, please prepare the following:

Scales: Major keys up to 5 sharps and 5 flats

Solos: 2 Contrasting solos/excerpts up to 45 seconds each

Sight-reading: I will provide an 8 measure example in the audition room
